Insect control air curtains for restaurants and caterings

Tuesday 10 August 2021

Air curtains are an effective solution to various problems that arise depending on the scenario. It is well known that air curtains are useful to avoid draughts and as an energy saving system. Moreover, Airtècnics adds advantages by means of the anti-insect system of the air curtains.

Catering businesses can attract insects such as flies or mosquitoes due to the fact that their raw material is organic. Fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, as well as food waste, are a source of attraction for these living beings that are not only annoying, but can also mean a public health problem and the consequent sanctions for the hotel and catering business.

Airtècnics offers the catering industry an ideal air curtain to prevent the entrance of flies, mosquitoes, other insects or rodents. The Fly anti-insect air curtain is available in five different models with the possibility of adapting the air curtain to the size of the door, applicable to different conditions and must comply with a series of requirements: in service entrances, the air curtain flow must have a thickness of between 5 and 12 cm and a minimum speed of 8 m/s. It is recommended that the air curtain model is more powerful than required by the standard NSF 37-2012.

As for the discharge diffuser, it should ideally be adjustable, with a variability of 15º or 20º with respect to the vertical line and oriented towards the outside of the establishment or space to be insulated.

Restaurante

One of the most important points when deciding on the air curtain is to bear in mind that the air curtain must cover the door in its entirety, even slightly overlapping it on both sides, to ensure optimum performance and completely avoid gaps through which insects can enter.

Pest control air curtains can be mounted indoors and outdoors, but it is recommended to install them outdoors, so that the space likely to attract pests is isolated. In addition to insects, these air curtains can prevent access to rodents, as according to several studies, the sensation caused by the air curtain's air on their skin repels them and, therefore, they avoid it.

For all dimension doors

The Fly K air curtain is suitable for doors up to two metres, the Fly KL model for doors up to 3 metres, the Fly KBB air curtain is recommended for doors up to 3.5 metres, and the Fly KXL air curtain for very large doors up to 4 metres in height. There is also a model for service windows, ideal for installation in restaurants, kiosks or guardhouses: Compact Fly.
