HVAC renovation with an ECFanGrid in a German Hospital

Thursday 06 March 2025

In the latest real retrofit project we’re presenting, our partners at Rosenberg had to renovate a ventilation system over 40 years old in a hospital in Germany. The goal: to modernize the climate control in the operating rooms and adjacent areas without interrupting hospital activity or compromising the demanding hygiene and safety standards.

For the air supply, a medium-pressure fan was installed, capable of reaching an operating point of 32,000 m³/h at 3,100 Pa, due to the high pressure required in these critical areas.

For air extraction, however, it was possible to use an ECFanGrid, a solution that combines efficiency, reliability, and ease of installation. In this case, the fan array operated at 32,000 m³/h and 1,580 Pa.

What is an ECFanGrid?

The ECFanGrid is an innovative solution that groups multiple EC (electronically commutated) fans in a modular structure. Each fan operates independently yet in coordination, allowing precise adjustment of airflow and pressure according to demand.

Key advantages of the ECFanGrid:

  • Energy efficiency: EC motors are highly efficient and allow continuous regulation.
  • Redundancy and reliability: If one fan fails, the rest of the system continues to operate.
  • Ease of maintenance: The modules are accessible and easy to replace without shutting down the entire system.
  • Flexible installation: The modular design facilitates transport and installation, even in tight spaces.

Retrofit: upgrading without complete replacement

Choosing a retrofit-type project, as in this hospital, allows old equipment to be modernized and adapted to current needs without redesigning or rebuilding the entire infrastructure. This reduces costs, execution time, and technical complications, while also having a lower environmental impact.

In this case, a Rosenberg assembly team supported the client throughout the process, coordinating tasks such as crane positioning, hygienic cleaning, and equipment assembly — even on public holidays. The operator was particularly satisfied with the speed and efficiency of the process.

Commitment to quality and service

At Airtècnics and the Rosenberg Group, we are proud to take part in projects like this that improve comfort, efficiency, and safety in sensitive environments such as hospitals. And above all, we are grateful for our clients’ trust and the recognition of our technical teams’ work.
