Airtècnics has manufactured and supplied air curtains at the Hamad International Airport, better known as “New Doha International Airport” (NDIA). The structure in question is probably the most luxurious terminal in the world, recently designed - in anticipation of the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar - with galleries of exclusive shops like Armani, Chanel and Bulgari, golden kiosks where to take a break and have a coffee, artistic installations created by world-renowned authors and all sorts of glitz to accommodate travelers.

Airtècnics has been commissioned to design the most efficient and elegant air curtains possible. It is a particular installation, composed of air curtains positioned both horizontally and vertically. For the project, we have used our ZEN air curtains, which is an elegant, high-performance design model, highly customizable, in stainless steel and different sizes. At the NDIA airport, 47 ZEN air curtains were installed, with the option of only ventilation. The air curtains panels integrate informative signage, such as luminous “Exit” indicators.

The problem solved with the installation of ZEN air curtains

The VIP zone at the Qatar International Airport had a problem: the smoking area is located near the rest and relax area, so that the smoke escaped from the door that separates the two locations. To prevent the smoke escaping, the installation of our ZEN air curtains has become indispensable and decisive – both to obtain an aesthetic effect perfectly integrated with the structure, and to guarantee an effective and definitive solution for the air conditioning, avoiding the passage of smoke and keeping the air clean and deodorized in the relax area. The ZEN air curtain barriers have been vertically positioned to make the most of the available space volumes.

In addition, eight Windbox M, G air curtains with invisible metal inlet grille were used. Doha’s International Airport is an example of Expressionist architecture that highlights, with its undulating line, the progressive Qatar’s economic growth. Therefore, the installation of air curtains has been specifically designed to integrate with the high aesthetic and artistic standards of the place.

Case study

For the specific situation at the Doha's International Airport, in addition to the usual  – for example, the reduction of energy expenditure, the increase in security conditions especially in a crowded environment such as the airport, since the air curtains facilitates the escape of people through the door that can be kept open, in addition to increasing internal comfort preventing the entry of insects, dust and pollution - it is given by the fact that by installing an adequate system of air curtains the problem that was created due to the Qatar’s high external temperatures was solved. That is, the very hot air present outside, in contact with the glass walls and the air conditioning inside the airport produced the formation of fog - due to the high temperature difference between the conditioned indoor environment and the very hot outdoor air. The problem was solved with an adequate set of air curtains, that have been bought after ascertaining that they have effectively solved the case. Currently, at the Doha’s International Airport, travelers can enjoy all the advantages offered by Airtècnics air curtains.
