UTAS refurbishment and energy-saving projects

Today we’re sharing details of the refurbishment of two air handling units for a dairy and fresh produce manufacturing plant in the agri-food sector, carried out by our partners at Rosenberg France.

The company had two objectives with this refurbishment of the units:

  1. Energy savings. This is the key feature of the compact EC PlugFan fan modules, thanks to their electronically commutated motors.
  2. Process reliability thanks to system redundancy; this provides a non-stop system that ensures nominal flow and pressure performance, without compromising the operating point, even in the unlikely event that one of the fans fails.

The agri-food industry cannot afford failures in ventilation systems that could disrupt production. Redundancy in the AHUs guarantees a level of peace of mind that traditional mechanically driven fans do not provide.

AFTER

In this project, the belt-driven fan was replaced by a configuration of six aluminium motorised turbines (AIMg3) with a diameter of 500 mm, providing airflows of over 50,000 m³/h.

Airtècnics supplies the complete retrofit kit, so that the end customer does not have to worry about anything during the process, and delivers a ‘turnkey’ installation, which includes:

  • Fans
  • Adaptation profiles
  • Installation accessories
  • Electrical junction box
  • Constant flow and pressure control

BENEFITS OF ECFANGRID

The project has resulted in an actual reduction of over 30% in electricity consumption, with an equivalent operating point in each AHU.

  • Reduced Maintenance: By eliminating drive belts, pulleys and lubricants, common mechanical failures are eliminated and the need for maintenance is reduced.
  • Easy Installation and Compact Design: The lightweight components facilitate handling and transport, allowing for quick (“plug & play”) installation in confined spaces.
  • Noise Reduction: EC fans operate more quietly, improving the acoustic environment.
  • Adaptability: Allows the number of fans to be adjusted to the specific air flow demand by reconfiguring the array.

As a result, a retrofit project causes minimal disruption to the customer. Your unit is taken offline for just a few hours, with all work carried out by our engineers and installers from start to finish.
