EC Fan Grid, what's a retrofit project?

Tuesday 14 February 2023

A ventilation retrofit project refers to the modernization or retrofitting of air handling units in ventilation and air conditioning systems with more efficient components.

Problems in AHUs are often caused by old belt-driven fans. Their inefficient motors have lower efficiency and high energy consumption. The rubber belts of the fan belts wear out over time. This wear causes dust to circulate in the ducts and can lead to poor air quality.

In addition, when one of these fans fails, the ventilation system stops working, leaving the building without mechanical ventilation. This situation frequently compromises the comfort of the users. The large size of the fans causes laborious maintenance and sometimes leads to high replacement costs.

To avoid these issues, the best option for renovation are highly efficient fans arranged in a parallel wall within the AHU. This fan system is called ECFanGrid and it is the most complete ventilation solution in the catalogue of Rosenberg, partners of Airtècnics.

Complete solution

The ECFanGrid are high performance fans whose vertical application favours a homogeneous air expulsion. This is a redundant system. Redundancy is a very beneficial feature for installers and end users, as the equipment never stops working, even if one fan stops. The other fans self-regulate their performance and adjust themselves to provide the same airflow.

For maintainers, it is a quickly adaptable system, as the working space is increased by reducing the size of the fans. This facilitates manoeuvrability and speeds up the process. Moreover, the compact fans are easy to replace thanks to the grid layout.

For installers, ECFanGrid are an easy-to-implement option. Fan kits are included with instructions. Profiles are included to design the grid into which the fans will be inserted. In addition, simple “plug and play” ensures commissioning in a matter of minutes.

Environmental advantages

The most remarkable feature of the ECFanGrid fans is their high energy savings. In building renovations, the ECFanGrid system helps to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. Indoor spaces are provided with sanitary conditions in accordance with the new standards registered in the RITE and demanded by society today.

Energy savings, environmental improvement and indoor air quality are the three pillars on which retrofitting projects must be based and which the ECFanGrid solution achieves in a small space and with little maintenance.
