Airtècnics Dam Twin air curtain at Frankfurt Airport, Germany

The entrances to the T3 car park at Frankfurt Airport are fitted with Airtècnics Dam Twin air curtains, installed as part of a project developed in collaboration with Rosenberg Ventilatoren. The solution has been designed to minimise the exchange of outside and inside air and to ensure reliable operation in a high-traffic environment with continuous operation.

 

 

Frankfurt Airport is one of the busiest in Europe in terms of passenger numbers and operations. In facilities of this kind, entrances remain open for long periods, leading to heat loss, the ingress of cold or hot air, draughts and increased energy consumption by the air conditioning systems.

To address these requirements, the Dam Twin system was chosen, a solution developed to ensure power and stability at doors subject to adverse draught conditions.

Why the Dam Twin system?

The Dam Twin System is designed for demanding industrial and commercial applications. Its dual-blower technology generates a more efficient air barrier, improving the climate separation between indoors and outdoors even in very adverse conditions.

At the entrances to the car park at Frankfurt Airport, the air curtains enable:

  • Reducing energy losses in areas with frequent opening.
  • Minimising the ingress of outside air, dust and pollutants.
  • Improving thermal comfort in circulation areas.
  • Optimising the performance of the building’s HVAC systems.
  • Maintaining more stable indoor conditions throughout the year.

Technical specifications

Dam Twin air curtains incorporate specific features for large-scale, high-intensity installations:

  • Dual air discharge to create a more powerful and uniform barrier.
  • High air flow rate for industrial doors and high-clearance entrances.
  • High-performance, low-noise fans.
  • Robust galvanised steel construction for demanding applications.
  • Modular design adaptable to different entrance dimensions.
  • Option for integration with BMS control and automation systems.
  • Configurations customisable to suit the architectural design.
  • Optimised operation for energy savings and operational efficiency.

This configuration ensures stable performance even in high-traffic facilities with constant openings, such as airports, logistics centres, car parks and industrial buildings; or in complex conditions such as underground passageways or train and metro stations.

Energy efficiency and sustainability in airport infrastructure

The installation of air curtains in airports has become a key solution for reducing energy consumption and improving the sustainability of large-scale infrastructure. In the case of Frankfurt Terminal 3, the DAM Twin system helps to reduce the thermal load on air conditioning equipment and contributes to optimising the building’s overall efficiency.

In addition to improving comfort for users and staff, the air curtain reduces draughts and facilitates better environmental control in the car park access areas.

The collaboration between the two companies enables the delivery of advanced ventilation and air curtain solutions for large-scale international projects of high technical complexity.
