Retrofit project at an AHU of a space design production plant

Tuesday 28 November 2023

Airtècnics wants to highlight the importance of retrofitting air handling units. This time with a real project in a space industry production plant, where they had an AHU classified according to ISO 8. The project was carried out by our partner Rosenberg France together with the team Vinci Facilities France, who performed the installation.

Project objectives

  • Save energy. The multiple EC fans consume less energy than the traditional fan.
  • Secure the clean room. The inherent redundancy of the ECFanGrid system ensures that even if one fan fails, the rest will self-regulate to continue operating at the expected performance of the unit.
  • Reduce maintenance costs. The compact footprint of the fan wall makes it easier for technicians to work and maintain cleanliness of the unit's interior.
  • Extending the life of the unit. Easier maintenance and more hygienic operation promote the durability of the components.

In this project, a vertical structure was built with ten 355 mm diameter EC fans, distributed in aluminum profiles, to achieve a nominal performance of approximately 51000 m3/h at 1900 Pa.

Thanks to this modernization, the plant's energy consumption has been reduced by more than 61%, which - before the increase in energy costs - translated into about 14,000 euros per year. In each project, the savings are different.

The customer achieved the goals set and now enjoys other benefits as well:
ModBus RTU data transmission from the motor units to the BMS for real-time information on: consumption, flow rate and fan temperature.
