The device uses a new disruptive, innovative and patented technology that manages to efficiently generate and expand hydroxyl radicals (OH) that, by means of Advanced Oxidation Processes (POA), eliminate pathogenic microorganisms and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). Hydroxyl radicals (OH) in sufficient concentrations perform biocidal functions in viruses, bacteria, allergens and mold, and degrade airbone organic compounds to mineral forms or harmless organic compounds.

The OH radical is the most important natural oxidant in tropospheric chemistry. It is often called "detergent" in the atmosphere, since it reacts with many pollutants, starting the process of cleaning them. Likewise, it plays an important role in the elimination of greenhouse effect gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and ozone.
The importance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (POA) is that their application destroys the contaminant, and is not concentrated or transferred to the environment. In this way, a total or almost total mineralization of organic pollutants is achieved, which means they have application in the destruction of the vast majority of organic compounds, especially in non-biodegradable compounds such as organochlorines, PCBs, PAHs, etc. It is a clean and safe technology and, in some processes, solar radiation can be used as the process initiator.
Wellisair evaporates an reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or a terpene such as d-limonene. This evaporation reacts with an internal emission of ozone below the limit concentration issued by the WHO in the environmental limit values (VLA) of the year 2000 for the general public in exposures of up to 8 hours and generates a constant and non-harmful production of OH radicals. Wellisair's operation is based on the emission of ozone in low concentrations (<20 ppb) and the evaporation of standardized amounts of d-limonene or H2O2 from the cartridge, for the execution of the advanced oxidation process. It is a safe, harmless in humans and effective method to quickly eliminate pathogenic microorganisms suspended in large spaces and air surfaces.
Efficacy against COVID-19
Viruses in the coronavirus family are between 60-200 nm in diameter, have a helically symmetrical nucleocapsid and a lipid sheath that is derived from the membrane of the previously infected host cell and contains glycoproteins and surface antigens. The characteristic projections of this genus arise from the lipid sheath, forming a solar corona around it that is visible under a microscope and gives the family its name. Having an envelope implies that the virus is sensitive to different external factors and agents such as heat, lipid solvents, not ionic detergents, formaldehyde and oxidizing agents, and UV irradiation.
Based on the results obtained with Wellisair in viruses with structures similar to COVID-19 such as the Syncytial Virus (RSV), the device offers an expected elimination result of between 92 and 99%, depending on the relative humidity conditions.
